Just do a full re-install and then download the hardware drivers from the Packard Bell site

Not really, unless you have the factory restore disk which already has the drivers etc built into it.
Everyone has a computer geek for a friend these days, just buy him a few beers and get him to do it

its a long shot, but you might be able to get a new disk from Packard Bell.
Drop them an e mail explaining the exact situation. They'll want to know the model number of your computer
i.e. Packard Bell A34 (this a made up model by the way)
The model number is usually on the case somewhere.

Could give this a go, you'll need to get the serial number which at a guess will be on the back of the case.
It might let you actually download a new disk (obviously you'll need to burn it your self)
Failing this, you'll be able to e mail them
