found this on ebay a 1.8 redtop and i found it really funni!

just had a reply back from him

this engine is from l reg it was a limited edition engine as they only put ecotec engines in astra mk3s in later reg's my freind works for lance owen vauxhall and knows alot about these cars and they are hard to come buy your right it isnt a 2 litre redtop but vauxhall thought that a 2.0 litre was top fast for the handling of the car so they put a slower 1.8 engine but it still uses the redtop basis i have driven this car and its no ecotec ...

its not an ecotec its a c18xe they didnt becom ecotecs till the prefix letter of the engine code became an X and used euro emissions 3

the guy is talkin sense jst to let ya know, and this engine is classed as a redtop even tho it is only a 1.8

they came in the astra cereso or whatever 141bhp iirc. c18xe my mate had 1 an it was surprisingly quick

the c16xe was not an ecotec the x16xe is

It was sort of an ecotec in "disguise", vauxhall just didn't finish/decide to put the SAI/EGR stuff on as it wasn't needed till a few years later. The engine design is pretty much no different to a x16 engine...... Its in the same "family" of engines
