Panasonic or Sony all the way
Samsungs are okay but the dont have particularity good contrast ratios
This is what you should look at when buying an LCD, the higher the contrast ratio the better the picture.
The Panasonic TX26 LMD70 won 26" TV of the year in almost every review. and you can get one for under £400 now

If you dont fancy that Pc world are doing the Sony 26" for £349 which is also a good set

Ive just bought the Panasonic and its a fantastic TV, lots of connections, supports 1080i and gives a superb picture, and the digital tuner is excellent.

ive been looking at panasonics and samsungs, looking at reviews samsungs are always good, and have always been mentioned on this forum too, but after seeing them in comet, the panasonics were so sharp, probably because they were hooked up to a HD source i dont know, but can get the 32" panasonic LXD70 for £599 for the 32" samsung for £499, dnt know which to go for, panasonic doesnt look as good

ps

32" LXD70 is £799 i think the LMD70 is £599

but House of fraser are doing the 32" LXD70 with 5 years warranty for £599!

do panasonics come with picture in picture?

As said, get panasonic or sony. Philips and LG use the same parts and are apparently poor.

apparently poor or actually poor? Ive never had a problem with any LG equipment, but Sony and Panasonic are out of my £400 budget

edit - and I cant help thinking if I get a 26" i will have wished to go for a 32", the 26" panasonic my dad has in his front room just doesnt look right....

If you've got your heart set on a 32" then your going to be getting the lower end of the range for £400.

However just got one of these for the g/f parents dinning room and it's spot on.

Stretch it £80 and get the Sony KDL-32S3000 from Amazon. MUCH better than the LG.

i just cant lol I am a student and that is the upper limit, I was ging to buy the 32" Hannspree for £300 off ebuyer then I ran out of money and now it isnt on there anymore, so Ive already gone £100 higher than my original budget.

I am used to a 21" CRT in my bedroom and we have a 37" Matsui 'HD' (720p) in the living room, which I think has a good picture (even though I know there is much better out there). It has a contrast ratio around 800:1 so surely the LG or Samsung I've linked with ratios circa 3000/4000:1 are going to be 5x better than what Im used to at least??
