I agree that is a good point - but some have been in the job for years when perhaps conditions were better relative to other careers.

As for new people - completely agree.

Times move on. People need to realise this instead of moaning about poor pay.

Thats the reply i was going to make. But i didnt start arguments. i'm glad someone else agrees.

We live in an ever changing world. The goal posts move all the time. You've gotta roll with it, if you dont....you end up in these people's shoes.

Virgin are a good company to work for actually! They do have some good incentives and perks. He has the right idea, if they don't like it GTF.

The Police will not go on strike the general feeling is that it would be stupid, dangerous and would make us as bad as the Government. To a degree I agree with what you are saying, If someone joined the Police and then decided that they didn't fancy working nights for example and wanted to complain about that I would take the exact same line - If you don't like it find a 9 to 5 job.
The issue around the dispute over pay is different. When I joined we had a guarenteed 3% cost of living pay rise every year but to most of the Officers it is not the money that is the most important thing. The Government agreed to a pay deal that was approved by the arbitrators and was still lower than the standard 3% that we have got year on year since 1979. Having agreed to that Jacqui Smith then wrote a sneaky letter suggesting that the pay award be staggered the result of which was that the Governement got the deal they wanted. She had no intention of honouring what she agreed to which I think sets a dangerous precedent.
The Police have no right to take industrial action and tbh we don't want it all we want is a fair pay deal that doesn't see us worse off because of inflation. It's also not like working in a bank for example where if HSBC won't give you what you want you can work for Barclays instead. Policing is dangerous and this was graphically illustrated by the death of another Officer from the Met shortly before Christmas. We know this when we join, we don't want medals all we want is a fair deal from the Government and a bit of support from the public we do our best to protect.

(sorry for the essay)

Thing is, 3% barely covers inflation atm

Staggering it is juts a pisstake as well, Id be well fucked off if my bosses said i was getting a payrise but it was going to be staggered across 6 months or whatever
