Ash that means the ignition live feed is broken and is probably due to a damaged accessory contact in your ignition barrell.
If you do that wire trick it will get it up and running however you will need to turn the radio off manually.

Ahh right.
Any reasoning to how this could of happend? To prevent it happening again?
So which wires should i be replacing?
Am i better off getting someone who's got a better idea than me to fix it?
Im guessing it from the connection, leading back to the ignition that needs fixing? And nothing to do with the headunit..
Cheers, Ash

Sorry for not replying mate....
If you can do the wire trick then we will know for sure.
If it works then you need a new one of these:

A 5 pin one is about £6, a 6 pin one is about £15.
It clips onto your ignition barrel and holds all the contacts that connect while you are turning the key. After so long these either snap or get covered in shite.
They are a bit of a pain to replace though. Does your key feel ok when your turning it in the ignition or does it ever get stuck?

The key feels fine when it's turned, pretty smooth.
So for the wire trick, i just need a piece of audio wire and link it between the red and yellow wires? the car side or from the stereo?
Cheers for the help, i'll get it working eventually haha..
Cheers, Ash

The stereo should have a harness similar to the one in the pic i gave you (the original car radio wont). You can just put a piece of wire between those two wires and jam it in with the bullet connectors to test it.

I'll do that asap then, just need to get down to motorsave, Any specific wire? Or any audio wire?
If that doesn't work, how easy is it to get to the little thing that goes onto your ignition barrel?

Just some normal 5 or 10 amp automotive cable will be fine.
If the cable trick doesnt work..... then its not your igntion barrel thats the problem

Alright, looked down at motorsave and in bullseye, they had neither, but would some cable from a connector block work? the stuff that goes into the stereo?
And what could it be if it isn't the ignition?

Got some red 5amp cable yesterday from Halfords.. Just been out to do it now, and it works! So would i be right in assuming that it is an igniton problem?
Will my stereo be ok as it is, with the wire in, will it last?
Thanks alot Richie! your help is very much appreciated

It will work but I dont recommend leaving it in.
It does very much appear to be a problem with the ACC contacts in the barrell.
Check all the fuses again just to be safe. Then if they are definatly all ok then you will have to pop your steering column cover off and remove the old contact block to find out how many pins it has.
If you arent confident doing it, take it to Vaux or a local auto electrician.
