X16XE engine. The car started tapping on the motor way, so i took it as easy as i could and nursed her home, i then left the car to cool down then checked the oil and it was bone dry So topped her up and turned it over, it persisted to tap until i took her for a spin and now the tapping has totally gone
Could i have done any damage even though she seems to be running fine?
I also did an oil change about 3 months ago and there are no leaks on the engine and doesnt blue smoke, should it really use this much?

Wouldnt have thought there will be any lasting damage if it was only tapping. If you had damaged the bearings then they wouldnt have fixed themselves when you filled it up.
and even when it doesnt show on your dipstick there is still oil in the engine

the tapping would av been the hydraulic lifters as there was no oil in them! they should be fine now, just keep an eye on the oil level now eh?
