the car wont start.
there is definitely battery power as the dash lights come on stereo still works etc.
when i try to start the car it wont turn over and there is a clicking noise coming from the engine bay.

Sounds like it.
Put the car in gear and rock it. then try again. It might be stuck. But usually when they are stuck there fucked.

ive tried rocking it in reverse and it hasnt done anything. cant try it in a forwards gear cos the car will roll into the gate

also does the ol clicking bit when there is a bad earth, jumping it but with the earth lead on the engine. If it fires then its the a bad earth somewhere.

ive tried jump starting the car and ive taken the earth off the battery and reconnected it

no try doing it again with the earth of the car you are jumping straight onto the engine of yours.
