After a new car, and I saw a real nice 2002 Vectra at my local forecourt. I'm after a diesel anyway, and it was priced at £2700. Just wondering if anyone has owned one, and what they're like to drive and own

The DTi is not a brilliant engine... needs a bit of tweeking to make it drivable. Motorway is bliss in them. Don't expect to get above 45mpg round town, just driving a 1.9CDTi one to my GF's and back, 44.8MPG average (My Ibiza get 48-50 on the same journey, smae driving).

Some see them as boring, but I like them, PACKED with toys the SRi (some nice little tidy features such as speed sensitive radio etc.)

the 2.2 DTi is the reason I DIDNT get an Omega, was unimpressed with it in the Omega

I agree with Pow, nice and quiet, electric anything and comfy seats does me TBH

Is the 2.2 that bad? Is it just that its thirstier then most diesels or is it because its a poor engine?

I thought that about the Veccy I drove tonight. The 1.9 didnt have enough uuumph to pull it, I bet the 2.2(??) or the 3.2 CDTi does better overall MPG

The engine isn't too bad, its quite old now so its not that refined. But its a fairly reliable engine.

the y22dtr, or z22dth are good engines. hence why we saw loads of taxis with 3-400k up them. only really vacuum pipes that break. all of what, £3-4.

I have a remapped 2.2 DTi

Goes very well, motorway crusing is great and she will see almost 50mpg on a run.

Although there are a few things to watch out for on these diesels:

Common Faults:
Fuel Pump (£1500+ if it dies!)
Gearbox Slave Cylinder (£400 for clutch kit incl labour)
Injector Seals (Timing Chain has to come off £££ Labour for £5 worth of repairs)
Leak-off pipes (Easy fix)
Glow Plugs Corrode, heads snap off and the cant be removed from the block (Head off job to repair)

Then we have the usual Vectra faults like sensors, electrical faults, bushes etc etc

2.2 DTI is a terrible engine

Shite MPG noisey, high emmissions and shit power

On the plus side they are reliable

Same engine in the 93 SAAB
