Right- GOING TO SWAP MY ENGINE WITHIN NEXT YEAR- hAVE GOT PRICES FOR 2L CONVERSION BUT AM NOW SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING 1.6 16V ECOTEC CONVERSION. I AM THINKING THIS WILL BE LESS OF A SHOCK TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY, MORE RELIABLE, NEED LESS BODY STRENGTHENING, AND WILL STILL ALLOW ME TO GET THROTTLE BODIES AND OTHER BITS AND PIECES- WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS.......

1- How much do you think this conversion will cost(drive in and out- and just engine, i can do all other neccesary upgrades myself

2-Will it in theory be more reliable than 2L

3-What bhp is this going to give me as standard

4-what bhp could it potentially reach with chip and tb ect(I know Patrick is selling one which is 226bhp)

5-how much do tb`s cost to buy and get fitted

WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE OPPINIONS FROM THOSE WHO HAVE HAD ENGINE SWAPS, OR DO THEM. ITS YOUR FEEDBACK WHICH IS GOING TO MAKE UP MY MIND AS WELL AS THAT OF MY INSURANCS COMPANY

ps- i am 21 currently driving 1.2ls with 2 years no claims which is why i like idea of 1.6 and then building power up as my no claims increase

IM SURE THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE ON HERE WANTING THESE ANSWERS AND IT MAKES A CHANGE FROM "WHERE DO I DRILL MY AIRBOX"
CHEERS PEOPLE

oh patricks is 170 bhp, its only 220 with nos.
but i very much doubt it will actually be 220 with the nos, those 50 bhp jets dont actually give anywhere near 50 bhp.

Ive been quoted £3500 for a red top and £2000 for the 1.6. Both 'drive in and out jobs' as u put it

i think SBD do throttle body kits, cant remember prices and power gains tho ! http://www.sbdev.co.uk/

Thats what i meant either the c16 or x16xe.

The quotes were from PVD for the 2 litre and Regal for the 1.6 16v. Im pretty sure it includes everything engine wise (not brakes)

Will be hard for you to find a c16xe as it was quite a rare engine. The x16xe pushes out 106bhp as standard. the c16xe being 109bhp and much more willing to tune. My advice to you is to go with the 2.0. There is no point getting the 1.6 as you may as well buy a second hand GSi or Sport, will be much less hassle and cheaper. So if you are dead cert on the engine conversion, get the 20xe dropped in, an f20 gearbox, Astra GTE brakes incl calipers and stiffer suspension. One of these off the shelf kits is worth bearing in mind since they contain all the parts needed for a conversion.

I currently have spax 40mm spring and damper kit on, 15" alloys- would this be sufficiant to take the extra weight of a 2l

yeah should be fine, get some decent rubber if you havent all ready, 2.0 engine mounts from someone who makes them for corsas, like PVD or Regal. What brakes do you have now?

cost me £50 extra to go from a 1.4 8v to a 2ltr 16v fully comp. That was with 1years driving experience, 1 years ncb 5 points for speeding, that was at 20yrs old.

If your going for a small block conversion (1.2 -> 1.6) then do it yourself. Hire an engine hoist for the weekend (£30) a cheap toolset (£50), couple of cans of wd40 and a big breaker bar (£30), oh and dont forget the haynes (£15). Its a near enough a straight swap. and a good experiencE!

think its in sheffield, or is that someone else !

Whats it like living with a 2 litre every day ? I have to drive to college and then to work pretty much everyday, so it has to be reliable and preferably not drink like a fish.
Y got me thinkin now !
