Would a 'sometimes' slipping alternator belt cause the following:

Tonite my housemate finished work and I was on my way to pick him up, before I pulled off I got the usual, idle squeel from what I assume is the alternator belt. nothing new there, just a quick foot on the gas seems to cure it.

Off I set and spot my mate walking at the side of the road so I pull over, dropping down to first obiously. meaning the revs are lower.

The car then began to splutter and almost stall and the battery light came on. It then did stall and cut out completely. I've had it happen to me once or twice before, so turned all electrics off; lights etc, and then restarted the car. I had to rinse and repeat this each time I tried to give the car some gas, but it wasn't responding and stalling/ not starting completely. I finally managed to get it to start and off I go as normal.

could it be linked to my ICV? or related to the belt slipping?

If the battery lights comes on, and cuts out, I don't understand how it has enough power to turn over & start

the revs drop really low, the battery light comes on as if just the ignition is on.

cuts out as in the engine stalls, sorry for my bad explaination

An alternator belt isnt exactly an expensive job, just replace it and see?

should only need a socket wrench to loosen the tensioner iirc.

Wouldnt have thought a slipping belt would do that though. had the alt belt slip on my 2.0 when i went through a puddle the light came on but it didnt cut out.

I can only assume its a link between the two? I had my music on so didnt hear is screeching

when I pulled up, so it must of been slipping a for a short while? and thats what caused it to stall?

maybe putting the car into 1st whilst moving caused it to stall?

Aye - you're not supposed to be able to get Corsa's into 1st, unless doing about 2mph.

Could be the ICV if it has one I guess. If it stalled because the alternator wasn't charging the battery, surely it'd indicate a shit battery as well?

My dad got about 12 miles in an E46 M3 without the alternator charging the battery.

the battery is new-ish, put into 1st as I was stationary.

It must be the ICV, I can only discribe it as this, as the revs dropped so low the engine stalled, hence the reason the battery light and came on.

I dont think its a direct link between the belt and the ICV. but they happened together last night.

I've had it nearly happen before, but on a good strong press of the gas pedal it recovers.

I got 32 miles with a flat battery and it was still running when I got home, the lights were very dim though

it MUST be the ICV, and the battery light came on as if the engine wasnt running

get the belt changed asap

also have a look at the alternator bracket bruses i have now seen 2 corsa's were these have worn a lot bud

yes the engine will stay when the voltage drops below a certain current.

althought you shouldnt be able to start it back up again, i managed to get mine running on a bump but only last a couple mins.

mine used to die/splutter whe pulling off occasionally took it to the garage couple of days later turned out the tensioner was exceptionally close to snapping (mine did have a misfire though at the same time when pulling off when idleing it sounded normal)

wen the belt gives the battery light will come on 24/7 and for some reason my handbrake light came on 2 lol
