I'm pretty sure the headunit desgin is to use the mp3 player as a storage device so would just need usb-usb cable

Have you tried the cable you use to plug it into the PC with but pluged into H/U instead?

its for my car, I have a USB socket in the glove box, If I use the data cable supplied with my MP3 player the player goes into USB mode and is pretty much useless

if I could plug it in to the car via the headphone socket it would play as usual

if the stereo has rca inputs on the back then just get a 3.5mm > RCA cable adapter.

3.5mm to usb won't be designed to work that way and would need a custom cable to be made up

I have Blue & Me too. What I do is put all my muis on a memory stick or portable hard drive and plug it into the USB. You have to use a really low power consumpton HDD though, or you can get the Vaio caddy which has one SUB lead for power and one for data as there are in fact two USB plugs on the Blue & Me control box. One of them is hidden behind a plastic cap which just pops out.
