hello all im about to do the head gasget on my 1.6 16v sport
its a 1998

just wonderd if anyone has any tips or pointers to give me before i start
also i need the engine code to get the parts
and im getting confused between a c16xe or x16xe???

Yours will be x16xe if that's something you're asking.

yes ive done a few
not many 16v ones but im sure my dads done more than me
i have a hanes manual for the torques

these are a hard engine to do, ive done these and the first one i did was a mision,
but all i will say is take ur time and if something that is in your way remove it dont make it a struggle for your self, also use a cam locking tool for the sake of a fiver its well worth getting one as these are a hard engine to time up if u havnt done one before and plus there not that safe

Ive jest finished mine a few days ago top tip photo every thing its hard work and get your self some plasters you ''will'' cut your sef to bits.... lol i pity you

X16XE isn't too bad, C16XE is a bastard as just getting the upper inlet off is a ball ache.

Sod the cam locking tool, just pull the plugs and use something to make sure all the pistons are half way up the bores, physically impossible to bend the valves then.

Whilst it is off it is worth doing the belt and tensioner.

Also, get a full headset as you can then do inlet/exhasut gaskets, cam seals, stem seals.
