Well I know that some people wire a switch up to thier fan to allow it to kick in earlier, but Ive no idea why yours is going as high as the red, there must be something wrong to be honest.

checked fuses pal, an to be honest since i had mt head gasket changed it has been getting hot! Before it sat nicely at 90 or above even in traffic. I think since the change they have put a standard thermo back in I checked the plug connector on the fan with a volt meter and its defo gettin power there, my concern is i dont wanna be sat in traffic someday an not be able to do anythin! I reckon it could be the fan switch presonally, but a few of my mates have it on a switch in the car, how would i go about wirin it up manually??

just get a switched live( live with ign on) and connect it to the switch and then onto the fan then take the other wire out of the fan to the body(earth it)

and then melt everything

the fan uses quite a high current will require a relay to prevent meltage or fucking the switch up every time you use it

My car did this when I was stuck in traffic. One garage told me it was a blocked radiator and another told me it was a snapped fan belt. Turns out it was both. haha.

Try the fan switch. Probably that.

Or, it could be a sticky thermostat not letting the hot coolant get to the fan switch.

Or, it could be the fan itself.

Dont bother with a cool running stat, as someone mentioned above. The car was designed to run at a certain temp. Standard guise is good enough to cool adequatley.

Not so good if one day you forget to turn it on though. Its probably your fan switch to be honest. You will need someone with a multimeter to check it out, one side of the fan should get +12V on it as soon as you turn the ignition on and the other wire should be earthed by the switch when the temp reaches 100 degrees or so.

In the mean time you can use your heaters to keep the engine cool, set them to hot and have the fan on 3 or 4. get it fixed before summer though or youll be sweating in traffic jams, been there done that
