Lesson 1:

Dont be disapointed by the way they arent that fast as standard, expect they have lost power over the years. My 1.3 8v S1 was quicker than my brothers. That was until he put the 2.0 zetec in there though. Its a cheap converion, he picked the engine up off ebay for under a £100 quid and did the conversion in about 3 days. Worth considering if youre worried about speed. His standard engine made 150bhp at the CS rolling road last year.

personall go with a cossie front brake upgrade, or get bigger wheels and go for st170 brakes etc

diet as you say, and decent suspension, Konis would be sufficant

Jas, you need to do lots of track slag mods.

Tape the lights up,
Drill some holes in the bumper for better airflow,
Take out the dash,
Battery in the boot,
Let Doug do the angle grinding,

etc etc

Tape lights is the most effective mod

good find mate. im driving the mk2 xr2 atm and its good to drive like a go-kart. best thing to do is strip it, decent suspension and brakes either st170 or 4x4 cossie. for tuning headwork and compression is what cvh engines need so K&N and id recommend an ashley 4 branch and system as its for track then chip, either kent or piper cam and after that whip the head off for some porting and a skim and maybe larger valves depending on budget after that its bottom end work or turbo conversion
