Hi Peeps.
I have been thinking of De-catting my exhaust system for a little while now, but have always been worried about it getting through an mot after. I just had my car MOT'd and the current CO2 emissions are 0.01% (i dunno what the average is) but im wondering if taking the center box out would make it fail an MOT on emissions.

Correct me if anything i have said here is incorrect.. i dont know a massive amount about all this gubbins (hense me asking).

Cheers.
Rich.

Removing the centre section isn't decatting, and you won't fail an MOT for doing it.

If you remove the catalytic converter (which is decatting) you'll fail the MOT for not having one as it was a legal requirement on cars produced after 1995 if I remember rightly.

All a centre section does is silcenes the exhaust. Nothing to do with emissions.

So, yes, you don't need one.

it was 1992 but there was a loop hole in the system and not everything had to meet the limits

everything after 01/08/1995 had to meet the current limits

I'm fairly sure if the car was made after the new legislation on cats came in, it has to be present, or the emissions are irrelevant.

nope there is nothing in the mot tester guide about the fitment of a cat emission within the limits pass if not fail it's as easy as that
