last night noticed that my engine management light was on and the speedo wasnt working.
rev counter and every other dial are fine inc the bulbs.
the night before tho i put in this cd player of my mates that shortened the circuit if i pushed it right in, not sure why, obv some wire somewhere,so left it half out so could still use it.
that night i was doing about 60mph and it started smoking from somewhere but couldnt see where as i slammed on and jus switched everything off, ripped the cd player out because i thought it could be that and it didnt happen again.
seems weird but i thought i may have seen it coming from where the boss for the steering wheel would be but thats maybe because i had my window open half way and the smoke was getting sucked that way.
any help would be gratefully appriciated

check your fuses mate and the CD players wiring loom

what model corsa? If its got an electric speedo it could be a fuse

what every fuse under the dash yeah??
is that the black connector things??

yep, check every fuse.
yep, the black connector which goes into the rear of the head unit, check all the wires which go to that and ensure there are no bare/split ones

ill check every fuse tomorrow morning to see if i can find anything but surely just a fuse blowin wouldnt cause a great deal of smoke

thnk its fuse 17 that you need to check, mine kept blowing last week after fiddling behind the ash tray/ cd player, was a dodgy earth making it short out

ive checked 17 and all around that one and none of them are blown put now the speedo seems to work again so maybe it was jus loose

stopped working again today with engine management light back on...
the light doesnt come on straight away but still comes on about a min after pulling off.
ill hav a play with the fuses again tomorrow to see if that helps,
any other possibilites??

try doing a paperclip test to see what fault code its gettin as the eml could be unretated you never know.
Take the dials up and clean the connectors up on the back
and the connector plug
that fixed mine

seems abit wierd, played with fused again today, none of them are broke but didnt seem to put it right.
But somtimes it does unless its not the fuses that are playing up, may take off the speedo this weekend and give the connectors a clean and see what happens!

check the wires to the cig lighter they mite be the thing that burnt out and its on the same fuse as the speedo

still havnt sorted it yet, how do you check the cig wires??
also the milage isnt going up lol if that helps with anything??

i held in the two buttons on the lcd today to see the speed before i pulled off so obv red 00 but now the speedo seems to work again,
any ideas?
