I just cannot get the bloody top nut to undo

Got the right spanner for it, but no matter what I grip the square bit with, it just turns.

Suggestions?

do you want the shocks?

if not, remove the plastic shield off the piston rod and grip the rod with some mole grips.

get the currect spanner to hold the top bit

Use a shifter to hold the top bit, wroked with me and thats what the haynes manual said I think

I rounded mine off using mole grips though, so got the grinder out and cut a notch in the shock and held it with mole grips. I didnt need my shocks as they looked fucked anyway

Got it last night eventually, took some persistance
