Hi Guys

my xe has started knocking ever so slightly on the bottom end as i think one of the shells has gone, if this is changed in time can i just change the shells or will i have to get the crank reground, thanks

if its a bottomend knock then it will be an engine in bits job to be safe and the crank will need polishing at the very least thats if it doesnt need a re-grind

better of just getting an ecotec bottom end with less mileage on arnt i

crank is slightly different on the ecotec ie where the flywheel and bottom pulley bolts on other than that it "might" be a straight swap

well yeah apart from that i think there the same or even a 8 valve bottom end, wheres the best place to go do you know.

throw some new shells on. Sooner you do it, the more chance of that being OK. The longer you wait the more damage you risk carrying out.

i heard it go straight away and drove towo miles down the road not goin over 2tho revs, it only knocks when i rev passed 2 thou any way, it still ticks over fine, and i havnt drove it since,

can i do the shells with engine still in the car and could you just run over how to do them as i will have ago if i can do it myself

Manifold off
Front ARB off (maybe)
Sump off
Baffle plate and pickup pipe off

Then undo the rod bolts at the bottom of each rod.

It's not an 'easy' job, it's just time consuming.

mint thakns alot, im quite clued up but id rather make suer than do more damage, where is the best place to go for some shells, and are they the main shells or big end, stupid question i know

I'd get mine from http://www.autovaux.com but their may be companies nearer to yourself that can help.

I'd get my hands dirty if you lived nearer mate, but its quite a treck to Tamworth; and I'm taking all my bottom end off this weekend aswell LOl

i know wat im doing i just wanna be 100% rite as the engine was mint before this went, and it didnt smoke or anything, really appreciate your feedback tho, ill let you know how i get on if i can get the shells before the wek end

autovaux should have them in stock, but obv you need to get your old ones out first lol
