I recently spiked my ecu so as my mate works in a scrap yard, a corsa 1.4 16v (like mine) came in so I put it in my car.
Its great! and you can tell the difference like crazy 2nd gear between 5000 n 6000 and the accleration has increased.
BUT I get a nice flat spot between 4000 and 5000 especially in 3rd gear but in all gears it does it really. It feels like its trying to go but failing, as if its struggling, as soon as its past 5000 it goes again!
Sometimes between them revs it does go alright just not as good.
It needs a service and the cam follower doing (dont know if this would affect it that much)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is the EML coming on?
Have you tried the paperclip test?

Yeh ill get it serviced asap and no the light isnt coming on, did once at the start of 4000 revs, nope whats the paperclip test?
