One of my friends at work is getting a newer car. Its a mk4 Astra. He describes it as

1.8 16v Twin Cam Redtop

Now, afaik, redtops are the 2.0XE engines (with a turbo??). He also says its in SXi trim and not SRi.

He is wrong yes? Or has been misled when sold the car?

The mk4's came with the 1.8 16v in the sri and sxi I believe. It's not a 'redtop' a redtop is a c20xe (not a turbo, the turbo is a c20let). It's still a twin cam but it will be an x18xe or maybe a z18xe I think.

Sounds weird to me, is it a standard 1.8? if so then it won't have the redtop engine (they are 2L [C20XE]) the turbo is (C20LET)

Yea he insists it has a turbo on the 1.8 yet described it as a redtop. I knew the redtop was a 2.0, didnt know if it was standard turbo or not.

Yea its a copletely standard car apart from some 'external styling' shall we say

He is adament its a 1.8 turbo though

No such thing mate

If it's a turbo it's either the GSi or the SRi but again they are 2L

Did they do the SXI with a 1.8??I always though the sxi was 1.6 and the sri were either 1.8,2.0 and 2.2.

God knows, knowing him hes bought a cut and shut Or someone has shoe horned a turbo on there

They did a 1.8 sxi yeah, it could have had a turbo conversion also?

No its definetly not, I said to him, is it an SRi and he said it definetly isnt, reason being he couldnt afford to insure the SRi or something.

I think he meant to say 1.6 16v Sxi Twin Cam. He has just plucked redtop out of the air to make it sound quicker I should think.....

Well he said its standard which would normally rule out a conversion, but who knows. Like above, I think a peek at the engine will be custard, it will either have a lawn mower under there or a snail

Not really rare tho.They same 1.8 "redtop" (C18XE)also came in other mk3 astras like the cesaro etc.

I meant the 1.8 Gsi's are rare (or so alot of people on here say) not the engines.

Nah they arent really that rare like.
Yeah a know what u mean,i was just giving a heads up to what other models came with the same engine.
