Hi all,

I have some idea of what I want up front - I'm thinking of getting a Pioneer AVIC HD3BT, and Focal 165A1 components.

What I need help with is recommendations for a sub and amp combination that would sit nicely with those. Ideally I would like to get both for around £100, as the HU is already pretty expensive!

I'm not looking for ground breaking bass here, just something that will give a nice sound. Music I listen to is R&B.

I've found a few 12" packages on certain sites that are within that price, but the problem is the amps are only mono - and as far as I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong) if I want to run the comps and the sub - which I do, I'll need at least a two channel amp.

Also if anyone can recommend a suitable wiring kit that would be useful. I'm willing to upgrade the cabling to the components as well if it will make a noticeable difference to the sound.

On that note, what's peoples opinions on the HU and components I've mentioned?

Any help appreciated!

If you're looking at running both a sub and the components from the single amp then you want a 4 channel amplifier so you can bridge 2 channels to give the power you need for the sub.

Can i ask why though you are buying (retails worth) a £2000 double din headunit and a £100 set of components and then skimping on the sub and amp??

The speakers are 60 wrms so instantly you're going to want an amp that can give 240 wrms which wont be enough to drive a subwoofer.

Also are you fitting the above to a corsa?? As i would have though that putting a double din into a "B" would be a fairly mammoth task.

Nah this is going into an Astra VXR.

And the reason why I'm skimping is exactly because of the price of the headunit! It's a lot of money and I could see the total of everything getting very expensive so wanted to cut back somewhere

I see what you're saying though, if I've spent that much then I might as well do it properly with the sub and the amp as well. What would you recommend?

Different head unit?? What about the new avic f900bt? or even the new kenwood 8220bt, at least with that you get garmin navi, that would mean a huge cut out of your budget so yo ucan get a sub thats actually worth buying.

I can see you getting the HU and speakers fitted then sitting down the line wishing you didnt skimp on the S&A. Something like an alpine pdx4.100 or 4.150 whichever it is would be within your price range then and that would power a reasonable sub without any problems and you'd get alot better clarity from your front comps.

Only mentioning the above as the HD3 is now an outdated model and with it being hard drive navi it'll be a noghtmare to upgrade later on in it's life.

Also you can upload speed cams onto the kenwood

Thanks for the recommendation on that Kenwood, it looks pretty nice. I wasn'e keen on the F900BT as the screen size was smaller but that Kenwood is full size so that's OK.

That's saved me £180 then (cheapest I found the HD3 was £1180, that 8220BT is £999).

So assuming I go with that Alpine amp, what sub would you recommend to go with it?

Also if the sub doesn't come in a box, what are these standard boxes you buy like in terms of quality and how the sub will sound in them?

Sub wise if you're going to have around 300 wrms to play with then i'd recommend something like a JL 12W3v3 decent quality sub that will last forever. Box wise for a w3 just a normal 12" sealed box will be fine for it and work fantastically well
