What is the highest degree cams you can use in these engines without changing the lifters to solid ones?

Nope, just standard.
I've seen "fast road" cams at 260 and 276 degree, but wondered if the latter would fit on standard management, as they're designed for carbs?

Speak to Swindon Racing.
Used to run Formula Vauxhall, redesigned the cams after people complained about lack of total power. They "Claim" to still sell these cams and gives 180+bhp.
About £400 I think, well worth giving them a call to find out more.

changes to fuelling and ignition timing will be needed to get gains from them. Also remember that as you gain power you will also move the usable power further up the rev range.
