how would i test the fan is working? and if thats working what could it be?

first of all check your coolant level, if that is ok then leave the car ticking over and keep an eye on the temp gauge, when it gets up to around 90c open the bonnet whilst keeping an eye on the temp gauge, keep looking under the bonnet at the fan to see if it kicks in should be around 98c , if it does not kick in, turn the car off. then you need to check things like : fuse that runs the fan, if thats ok check your rad switch. reply when you have checked these things

its probably not over heating
its normal when at a standstill for the temp guage to go upto near 100, the fan will kick in and it will come back down to 90
go and sit in the car outside with the engine running and see if that happens
you will hear the fan come on, the revs drop on the engine too

can check fan by shorting connector with paperclip, make sure the egnition is off b4 connecting clip fan should run when key turned on
