If it does it when you're just revving it up then it's not clocks, gearbox or anything else transmission related.
What engine? I know the early C16XE had an issue with noise on the inlet manifold but that's a design feature of the plastic inlet and you won't generally cure it.
Edit - so not C16XE then.
Can you describe the noise in sound and volume. How loud compared to revs?

1.2 corsa spin n its a reasonably loud grinding noise at high rpm's

its same kind of sound that u hear when you put your car in the wrong gear but a bit quieter

Proportional to revs or just happens at that speed?

haven't driven it yet unfortunately only 16 it idles fine and is ok until about 3 quarters of the revs then the sound comes. do you think it could be serious?

Whip the cambelt cover off and check that is all tight first of all.

If it wants the belt anyway then do that and the water pump, even if it doesn't cure it, it's probably wise on an engine with that mileage if you're unsure when it was last done.

sounds like new timing belt kit and water pump, had the same on my 1.4 sport

when my water pump went (c16xe) it was more of a constant tap than a rattle, but if your doing a cambelt anyway you might aswell do the water pump
