just read on another site that diesels dont need cats to be road legal or pass mot's

why is that?

They have a diesel particulate filter.

some use a cat, later cars (generally 2007 on) use a particle filter.

Isnt it because they arent tested on emissions but smog? I dont know, will find out at MOT time

yes

Diesel engine don't need a cat because they only do a smoke test for MOT

One thing I was wondering. How come they don't put centre boxes on diesels? Mine isn't loud, but it's not really that quiet either. Plus it doesn't sound that good really

Yeah, my Clio and Ibiza don't have cnetre boxes

TD engines dont have centre silencers due to them being very quiet engines, the turbo itself silences most of the noise.

Dave, does removing the cat (decat??) provide any sort of performance differences?

I thought that too, I had my fingers crossed with the Fiesta and I was massively, massively wrong

Diesel engines are inherently quieter too, which helps.
