they have a new product, which enables uses (tunning companies) to plug your car in, send data back to MSD, then they send the map back to the tuner
ask robin etc, but ive never ever seen MSD slagged off
Their Genius program system is very good, and MSD's maps in the first place are fantastic.
Im not just saying that cause im friends with Stuart Sanderson who owns MSD either, they really are very good, Stu is one of only a handful of people I trust implicitly for tuning advice.
Nick from pinsharp autos in berkshire is a particuarly good guy to talk to about one of their remaps (he is their agent for that area, but will travel anywhere in the south around that vague region if you give him enough notice and actually comes to you to do the remap)

That report is 4 years old
Its also far from impartial! AMD were desperate to get into the vaux scene at that time. The people that had failings out with courtney and regal at that time saw AmD as the saviour of remaps, so that report was no way going to be impartial. The RR day was run by astrasport that day a fair few of our members got remapped by AmD that day and the following weeks - every one of those cars had issues and the maps got changed in the following months other than 1 car.
The tunning world on Zlets has come a very long way since that 2004 report so I wouldn't look to much into it at all. Oh and AmD in that guise went bust as well

Thorney map ont he VXR makes it smoother than the original map in low gears.
Can't comment on the other maps.
But then again, what proper tuning company takes their demo car out with a video camera at 160mph on the road, with a customer passanger.....
Then posts it on youtube...
Can't really see some top tuning companies doing that really......

The EDS stuff fundamentally works well enough, but it HAS by definition to be a little too much on the conservative side, they cant take any risks at all with things like ignition values as for all they know you have skimmed the hell out of your head etc.
So the timing tends to be a little retarded from optimum for most engines, and the fuelling tends to be a bit rich, both of which lose you power.
Someone like MSD, can live map exactly to the requirements of your engine, and so really get the best out of it, as opposed to make a chip that is in the right ballpark.
With the genius setup, you get a halfway house between the two, but at a cost much more inline with the off the shelf chip option.

Nick said no, but was only an enquiery tbh
Im going to thorney, they have done two of my freind's astra's and both of them drive so well since being mapped
I called thorney and they said they will write a map to suit the car, im not bothered if it a generic map they use on all customer's car's tbh
But thet also added the car will be on the roller's/road all day and it's a long wait, he said they have plenty of mag's to read and they will use most of a full tank doing it £££
