One of the lads in the office needs some free software to that he can download to open a zip file and I was wondering if anyone could recommend something. He said he used to use Winzip but apparently you only get a 30 day trial.

I'm also pretty sure winzip lets you use it past the trial. You just have to click "i agree" each time until you enter a registration key.

Ahh so he's just being a retard and doesn't actually need any software. Must admit I know nothing about zipping folders etc. as I've never had the need to do it

If it's XP/Vista then zip functionality is built in.
He deserves the sack for being a 'tard tbh.

Either way, Winrar is a pretty useful piece of software, as Bart said.

If he is trying to open it from an email, it won't work.
He needs to save it to the local machine's HDD or server/network drive etc before trying to open it

I use 7-Zip, it's free, and it does RAR files as well (WinRAR is 30-day trial as well IIRC).

They all still work, even winzip. You just have to agree to their stupid 'registration notice' each time.

Just use 7 Zip, why use two different programs when you can just use one and it's free!
Also has shell integration, and works fine on Vista.

Yeah I read the 30 day trial, I've had mine for over a year from download.com
