PAYG won't be very good if you want to use the iphone for anything that needs data, which is the whole point of the iphone, I doubt payg on any network would be any good.

Is there not an O2 bolt-on for data? Probably will be.

Yes, i have just this second activated this, it just takes £10 a month out of your credit. ALthough it does say 'unlimited browsing subject to excessive use policy'. Surely £10 in 3-4 mins would be classed as excessive use, especially if ive got mail on push etc.

just because router may be on 54mbps, doesnt mean the iphone can receive at that speed.

tends to be 1meg-2 meg a second.

stolen from iphone forum

"press the WIFI button (which triggers a larger payload), the 2g phone gets me a speed of between 1mbit and 2mbit. The test completes inside 45 seconds. A bit slow, yes, but not too bad..

When I put the same sim into the brand new 2.0 phone, (also on wifi) and do the same thing, the speed test limps along and either fails completely or sometimes gets as far as reporting a very slow speed.. 200kbit or so.."

I have no idead what speed it is, you said it was g.

802.11g gives 54mbps, i'm well aware this is theoretical top speed but it's still more than capable of over double 2 meg a second.

Thats showing people doing speed tests on an iphone and getting varying results.

As has been shown on the speedtest thread in geek day speedtests don't mean anything.

wifi is still faster than your network and it was a massive mistake leaving it out.

I don't like the iphone either but the blackberry still won't sell as many

In real world usage my iPhone loads web pages through wireless at the same speed as my laptop. No phone on an EDGE/3G connection will. That is all that matters.
