iv gotta laptop thats hanging at win xp screen 'preparing network connections' and it stays there - for 3 hours +!
iv slaved the hd on my machine and run all virus/adaware/spyware checks etc so im happy its clean
in recovery console from xp disc iv run chkdsk - found 1 error
fixboot
and fixmbr
its still not working - how would i fix the chkdsk error as there doesnt apppear to be an option to fix?

tried "chkdsk /r" ? forces a recheck on the drive and should fix any errors. its worked for me in the past with crazy errors like that. that would be my first port of call
failing that, just type in chkdsk /? and see if theres any other commands in there that'll work for you

looks like its got the sasser worm on it somewhere from the symptoms
can i run regedit on a slave hd?
