Pow im extremely careful with my money too, i dont drink much/do drugs/ gamble etc. All i spend my cash on is my car tbh. Its what i love. I have a fuel budget and always have fuel/money left over. I would get a diesel should i need to do tons of miles, but i dont so i shall carry on enjoying my 343bhp straight six

It actually was. It was an example of saying it isn't the car, it's how you drive it.
Rag a Prius, it will get MPG the same as a V8 M3 simply keeping up. Rag both, of course the M3 is worse. Drive both with economy in mind, the Prius will probably be better.
I've been labelled some kind of MPG freak. I honestly don't care about MPG that much. But when you drive a car like I do, you have to hold on to something decent. . .MPG.

How was that a fair test.
Now send the Prius into London and the M3 following it?

Ok. No send a Prius flat out around Silverstone, with the M3 following. It's all relative you numpty. London or Silverstone, it doesn't matter.
And technically, a Prius in London gets 0MPG, so is worse

Exactly i agree with Pow for once
I hate Prius' with a passion, but driving around town, into the city, your going to get better mpg than MOST large cars
It also has handy compartments in the boot to hid dead bodies
The worst i have ever gotten was 24mpg in a 1.2 8v. Worst in my car is 36mpg.....over about 100 miles.

The Prius gets 0 MPG in London it's emissions where it is better
Sort of, in a funny sense, in my eyes

But the M3 in london would. Driving around 30mph limits deano, the prius would be better than an M3, fact !
On the motorway, if driven in economy mindset, probably the same, both being booted however the prius again would be better (but get to the destination an hour after the bmw)

I'm not doubting that the Prius is/isn't economical in many situations though
What I'm saying is the M3 Prius test on Top Gear was fair, just not conclusive.

Id like to see them both on the Ring.
if they were given plenty of time to get round, say 15 minutes, and they managed to average out the driving so it took 15 mins i wonder what one would use more fuel then.
im in no way saying overall the M3 is better on MPG of course its not, but under some sircumstances there is time that the beemer would be better!

Yeah i agree, i wasnt disagreeing
I just think they should have included town driving too, would have been fairer, as those prius' are so gutless on the motorway !

My mate is obsessed with MPG, hes got a Fabia VRs, we had a competition who could get the most miles to £50 (Same price Diesel) It was so boring and naturally I lost cause I cant drive like a priest, he wouldnt take part in the who can get the least Waste of a VR

you what...an M3 would use more fuel than a prius in town and motorway, the prius only used more fuel in topgear because it was roasting it and the M3 wasn't.
