Alrite guys just a few q's to ask ive recently fitted a new head to my friends c20xe after shredding his 5th engine, basically where up and running but we have a large mis fire mainly on cylinder 3, we seem to be getting enough fuel and spark, we have installed a new crank sensor leads dizzy and plugs and rotor arm, cambelt headgasket rollers etc etc basically a top end rebuild BUT we used a recon c20let head will this cause a problem with it, i did a compression test and checked the timing which is spot on. we also changed the throttle body is there any difference in the manfolds or throttle bodies? we have an early type engine and loom, also when i go to start to the car im gettin 6 blinks off the clifford alarm, anyone any good with them ? cheers wayne

The heads are the same but the cams are different, did you use the C20XE cams? Should really have used the complete inlet setup from the C20XXE but Ive never had an XE so Im not sure if the inlet manifolds and throttle is the same

i see your near me LOL! i think you know my mate! maybe its worth checking the cam lobes on that cylinder for damage or see if there working like they should?! also check the spark plug gap is correct and maybe its worth swaping plugs to check also do the same with the HT lead!

Yes ive changed the cams and lifters from the previous head the lobes where all fine as the engine ran mint before it chucked its belt of it! that what im concerned about if the manifolds are the same :s im not sure either im gonna put the old throttle body on and see how things are from there, tbh it sounds like fuel starvation as it hunts all the time but its not drawing in air, "chris_gilly" whos your mate? cheers guys

remove the fuse box cover on drivers side, and you will see a grey block on the left hand side, get a paper clip and as you look at the block put one end of the paper clip in the top left and the other end 2nd from top on the left. and video recored the eml light flashing it will flash one then stop then twice this just means start of the test it will do that three times then will give you the code by flashes.

thats prob your best bet but the eml must be on for 30 secs to record the fault. you will know exactly were to look if you do this!

if im right the knock sensor detects damage to the block eg worn big ends etc.. i thought piston 3 could be damaged. the only thing i can say is strip it down check everything.. take the sump of and check for damage up the bores etc
or if you like change the knock sensor to start with
