Odd question, i should know the answer, but i cant find anything online

Can a car fail its MOT for having an oil leak?

no...our mechanic says an oil leak is good as it helps keep the underside of the car protected against rust

I suppose they'd fail it if it was really bad ie....a big hole in the sump

if its leaking on to the exhaust it will!!

Depends if its a slight gasket leak or if t pours onto the ramp..

IIRC you would fail if the oil light came on during the MOT.

my corsa had an advisory about oil leak.. i dont know whats wrong, but looks like the seal on the cranck has gone and leaking into gearbox , and onto the floor...

sounds like the crank seal, quite common.. my other two corsa's had the same

i had an advisory on mine, had to replace the gasket on the sump. think it depends on how bad the leak is.

mine was pouring out of my saxo,

said all he could do was just advise me to get it fixed unless it was leaking on my brakes.
then fail if it was
i lost about a pint just while he was testing it lol!

i didnt know its common... doesnt leak much.. few drops per night.. but as my car is parked in the same spot every night , there is a big black spot now

Yeah crank shaft seals are common. Had to replace them when the corsa had a 1.6 as they were pissing out.
