whens that then? we have had credit issues as early as August last year, and before that it just wasnt so hard hitting...

I had booked it all back in spring, I was already commited by about 3-4k in flights / intrepid trips / car hire / bits of accomidation etc...

August it got a little bit shitty, I left early Sept. After that was when it got really shit.

Most of my student loan was spent on my education. For my travels it was mostly the money I had been saving for years through part time work and placement year (not spending much on anything).

I rang them and they've now said I have until April to get them some proof like bank statements etc, otherwise the money is getting deducted

The real shitter is that my bank account gives me 0.66% interest on my money at the moment, yet my student loan is still charging me about 5% (follows the rate of inflation for the previous march).

Tbh people dont realise that when students take student loans out they are not for free, say you are earning under the 15 threshold you are still incurring interest on the sum.

I've been paying mine back for a few years now and when i rang up on te Student Loans company regarding my current balance their response was" Dunno mate you have to keep your own records we only send out half yearly statements"

So now I am having to back track and record all my payments I make each month.

Student loans are always with a catch its not free cheap money like people always hark on about.

It was cheap to free money until the interest rate went up.

oh yeh

quote:
This interest rate is based on the annual March Retail Price Index (RPI) or the highest base rate of a number of major banks plus 1%; whichever is lower.

To date, the RPI has always been the lower of the two. The reduced bank base rate plus 1% is now lower than the March 2008 RPI so we have presently adjusted the student loan rate to 3%.

Very low it should be around the £50-60 mark a month

In, Paul J's case, if they're asking for £259 per month:

you pay back 9% of whatever you earn over £15,000 so to pay back £259 per month you would have to earn £49,533.33
[(((£259*12)/9)*100)+£15,000]

It should be £22.50 per month on £18k basic; £9% of £3000 is £270
