...thick creamy goo instead of thin black oil? (no jokes please, lol!)

Just went to top up my engine oil in my 1.2 8v and there's shed loads of mayonaise stuff all round the oil cap and inside. What could be wrong?

It's a 1.2 8v, so it's never been amazing, but it seems to be running as per usual
It's not using water...that always stays at the same level
It's not white smoking from the exhaust

I've had it for ages and I've never seen it like this before!?!

It will just be condensation in the oil. Do you do mainly short journeys?

Well I usually do 15 miles to/from work every day, but I drove 180 miles last night to be home for the weekend.

I thought it could be something to do with the head?

Cheers everyone. I'll top the oil up tonight for a 20 miles round trip, then see what it's like tomorrow morning!

Is changing the head a big job?...if I took it to a garage, would they do it in a day?

Yes and no I imagine. Id say its more likely to be the gasket though.

Yeah my 1.2 used to do this very badly during the winter. Never went away until i did an oil change and cleaned the oil cap up.

CHANGE THE OIL

Topping it up wont get rid of any traces of water that may be in the oil.

Oil shouldnt be 'black' either

The breather pipes may be a bit blocked up too. They go from the cam cover to the throttle body - when mine got all gunked up I was advised to give them a clean out. Brake cleaner did the job quite well...
