anyone else really struggle to decide what they wanted to do with there life? i just cant seem to make up my mind and stick with it. i got good GCSE's, good A levels, did an apprenticeship with a luxury yacht manufacturer, after completing my apprenticeship they made 300 people redundant, me being one of them. Now i dont know whether to set up my own business in boat repair, go to uni, always wanted to be a fireman. i'm 21 and feel although i'm still young and should be enjoying life, i'd like to do something thats going to set me up for the future.
any advice greatly appreciated.

Well I left Uni and was offered a construction management job but decided it wasn't for me so pursued my dream of working in the film industry.........its very very hard to get in but I will keep trying. You get on shot at life so do something you enjoy

I left the motor trade in September last year at the age of 22 after 4 years at Vauxhall. I had been off work the week before hand thinking there was no proper or definate future prospects for me there so left for University with half a days notice. Best decision I have ever made and deffinately one I would recommend you consider mate

Do something you enjoy for starters - otherwise you'll just not want to turn up.
Not a great time to be setting up your own business, getting funds will be tough, when you do they'll want a lot of personal guarantees (especially for rent and such), plus id imagine the demand for boats and therefore repairs will be fairly low given the current climate.

yeah, i have always had that way of thinking with everything, if you dont want to do something you will never do it to the best of your ability. think i need to do some soul searching.lol.

ive always known what i wanted to do, but getting theres the hard part...Im in the process of uni interviews at the moment.... so fingers crossed.

I enjoyed Design, Physics and Maths to a degree at School and outside of school I taught sailing and windsurfing, so I combined them and went into small craft Naval Architecture. The jobs good, the money is better and the security is also very good. As with any job, we have good and bad days but this week has been pretty good 
Only downside, I've completely lost interest in boats/sailing in my personal life as I see them every day of my working life (although that may be also down to renovating the hosue and havign no time).

I went to Southampton Solent Uni and did BEng (hons) Naval Architecture and specialised in Yacht and powercraft Design rather than ship science.

Don't worry, im 28 and still don't know what I really want to do in life.
Everything I want to do involves starting completly over again, but I don't want to give up my house to do it 
I also need a fair chunk of cash to do it 
Till then IT pays the bills and gives me money to play, holidays, toys etc...
Material items though really.

I had only recently completed my apprenticeship and was just working as a cabinet maker, although i have worked in all areas of the manufacturing process (grp moulding, stage 1 engineer, 1st and 2nd fix electrics and plumbing, engine installation and fit out). i was planning on doing some higher level training but with the redundancies etc i (understandably) ended up going down the list of priorities. i was at Fairline, i was actually apprentice of the year  in my second year. where do you work? i am very eager to progress and learn as much as i can, especially while i am still relatively young. u2u if more appropriate/necessary.

I'm at a crossroads right now really.
Not really sure I want to stay with my current workplace as i'm getting bored & the chances of promotion are getting slimmer due to streamlining. You basically have to wait for someone to quit or die before something becomes available. It's not bad money for what I do though, so thats whats keeping me there at the moment.
Other options i've been running through my mind is jacking it in & going to Uni, even if its only a part time basis. Always wanted to work in the Sports field, and I know its something I would enjoy, I dont know if it will be too late though.
I'm coming up to 25, so need to decide now as by the time September comes I want to be all sorted. Got nothing stopping me from jacking in work but for some reason something at the back of my mind is telling me not to......

I'm 25 now and i'm still struggling. I went back to college after 2 years pissing around doing bloody business studies and a year in dead end jobs, picked subject I thought i'd be interested in, did the same with the degree, finished that, still no ideas. I know work in the NHS public health department, still unsure what I really enjoy but getting further down the rabbit hole hoping one day something will click. Seen a position at a different place but still NHS which is more of a trainee role where you do a Masters, defiantly going for that. I don't have confidence in my ability but see plenty of numpties earning a lot more than me, that keeps my faith up!
My advice would be to keep active, even if you don't know what to do, keep busy and develop skills left right and centre, over as broad a range as possible just incase you do find something, that way it will be easier to get to it.
My only ambition really is to retire, but at the same time I don't want to wish my life away and you need money to do the things you want to do. The rat race sucks.
