Hi all,

My corsa has a little crack in the passenger pillar and done some research and was aparently a common(ish) prob with the B's due to doors being too big?

Anyway.

I want to nip it in the bud so assume it's a bodyshop job? Whats involved in repairing it?

It a case of cutting the effected area out and putting a replacement plate in or is it fillered to death or?

Any advice or suggestions etc and experience of this would be cool

Cheers

I'm sure it's a crack as was there before respray and has appeared again.

Well MOT in vauxhall would fail it, and my new local(er) garage was ex-vaux so thought why not! He failed it So took it back to my regular

So i think it is and isn't but i'd rather get it sorted though

That shouldnt fail an MOT really unless they are being REALLY REALLY picky. They could argue that its too close to the upper seat belt mounting points I suppose? just put some touch up paint in the crack when you get it MOT'd.. Is it really worth repairing? you coudl just get another shell for a few £

That's EXACTLY what the guy said! And apparently causes "FLEX" in the upper part of car?

Yea suppose if i could get it covered up better im not really bothered, just wouldn't want it progressing anymore. And im hoping in the next few months to get it in bodyshop again anyway so thought if it's worth it get it done but if it doesn't have any serious consequences further down the line i'm not too fussed

it wont get worse its just where 2 panels join. nothing really structural in it. if you really want it sorting you need to strip paint of and any filler and get the seam welded

Put abit of tape over it for the mot, they won't see it then and won't be able to fail it on that point.

my 94 gsi has it. spoke to vaux...reckon £600 to repair!!!

its just the newer corsa b's had a strengthening plate fitted in the 1/4 panel where as the older ones obv didnt. and just a random guess with jacking to car up, bigger/faster engines, force etc they jus end up 'going'

i was told its an mot fail, but mine had never failed tbh

It's expensive to repair because you really need to paint the entire panel. The actually metal repair isn't difficult. Generally both ends are drilled to stop the crack travelling further, it's then welded to fill the gap, ground back and tidied with bodyfiller.
