A Drophead Coupe? They're beauties aren't they.

Saw a second-hand one for sale last year for £250,000.

You seem to have a lot of nice motors out there, whats the story with running costs out there then?

Or are people just generally richer?

Nothing to pay for other than petrol and servicing. (and speeding fines )

Petrols about 20p a litre, and other than that, it's just maintaining your motor like you would in england.

The majority of people (Westerners in particular) are generally richer and can afford things like this, but because it's so easy to get loans (Or at least it was) alot of people buy motors on finance. My mates 23 year old housemate has a brand new Porsche Cayenne. He's not rich, he's massively in debt on the motor, but as long as his job doesn't go tits up, he can afford it the repayments.

But if an expat gets made redundant, which is what has been happening over the last couple of months, and they can't find another job, then they cant pay their loans, and if you cant pay your loans then you go straight to jail.

People have just been driving to the airport, leaving their keys in the ignition and fleeing the country with no intention of coming back because they don't want to go to jail, and they can't find another job.

The majority of the ridiculous cars here are driven by locals I'd say - the lambos, the hummers, but every tom dick and harry from every nationality has range rover sports, mercs, beemers, etc.

Locals themselves dont have a credit crunch and are not aware what is going on around them to an extent - Around only 15,000 locals work in the private sector - the rest are employed by the government etc, so they are simply not affected and life continues as normal.

Someone was telling me about that the other day. The banks are then having to go and find the cars parked up at the airport aren't they so they can get some money back?

No tax.

MOT is just servicing and stuff isnt it? That has to be done every 10,000km - costs about 30 quid.

Insurance is 5% of the cars worth - 10% if it's a sports car.

Feet firmly on the ground until my debts are cleared - I have a Peugeot 206. Insurance costs me about 90 quid for the year.

Moved over in 2005 for my Uni 3rd year thanks to a businessman I knew; Went back home for a year to finish Uni, then moved back over about 2 years ago now. I work for myself now.

Easy to work here, easy to move over here. At the end of the day, like I tell anyone who moves abroad...if you don't like it, you go to the airport and go home.

Everything is 10 minutes away (Abu Dhabi is an island), lifestyle is very good, weather is always very good, my mates arent bad, as is the missus, the football scene (Playing and watching) is quality.

In the current climate, this place isn't a bad place to be.

Are there many places over there that would offer "move package" as such? Similar to a sponsership? Do you know of any decent job sites for over there?

What line of work is it you do?

I graduated from Uni in Multimedia Computing and specialise in that - graphic design, web design, etc.

Companies offer a 'move package' - a salary, an accomodation allowance, medical insurance, one flight home a year. That's the standard, as per ministry of labour law. If you're very lucky, and depending on your line of work and how big the company is, they will give you accomodation rather than an allowance (Happening less and less nowadays because of the high rents), a furniture allowance, or cash to ship your furniture over.

Plenty of job sites - gulftalent.com, jobs.abudhabi.ae, bayt.com though the market has gone down slightly because of what is happening everywhere else around the globe

I see Rolls Royces all the time, i live next to goodwood where they are made. Ive seen a soft top one painted in mint green, its looked hideous to say the least. Why someone would do that i dont know.
