What car have you got alan?

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

The word is money.

If you want to know if your car is over-fuelling put it on a gas analyser. If you're running standard management then it's very unlikely that it is.

Difference between fitting a flamer kit and painting your wheels is that the colour of your wheels is just a styling choice. Fitting a flamer kit to ignite fuel after it's been through the engine is merely simulating high performance and not actually changing the car for the better.

Flames are cool, but they're made when your engine is so damn powerful that it can't help itself. Not because you need to ignite the fuel yourself afterwards.

A Sport XE.

And Ian, agreed, but so is putting a loud/ 'performance' backbox on a 1 litre - as said - but people don't seem to get flamed for that.

Haha. what xe though? if it is a 20xe just change the ignition advance and make your carbs rich. thats what mine is like now and spits flames from every orrifice.

Thats why it's going on the rollers to be set-up on Wednesday. Hopefully then it will stop haha.

If you want real flames, fit a turbo and antilag. But you would need to remortgage your house for the rebuilds.

Lol, might just (not) try that! And yes, 2.0 beast. Is yours in the kit car in the pic?

EDIT: just had a look at your garage, that thing must be like shit off a greased shovel.

And Hawkins, fuck off back under your rock.

Flames coming from your exhaust are cool, they are only cool if it is done through the engine doing it itself. Not through the use of a seperate kit.

They look good but there'll always be someone on the other side of the carpark muttering the word "chav"

Front lights came with the car but I've not got round to doing anything with them. Took a set of lexus lights off it along with a cosworth badge someone had stuck on the boot

I've been told that due to the twin tailpipes I needs two seperate kits to cater for two spark plugs, by a seller on e-bay. But I'm thinking I could maybe just use the coil pack from a twin cylinder motorbike or something similair instead. Gonna have a look into it anyway.

And Stevocee, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But I remember I saw a BMW 850i on one of the Gumball rallies with what looked like a flamer it. Would you say that that's cool? Because if one pulled up beside me and started licking 5 foot flames out of the exhaust I'd be pretty gobsmacked.

Obviously it's not the same if it's coming from a 'chavvy' car like a corsa, but that's my point. Is it only 'chavvy' on a corsa becasue a corsa's a chavvy car in the first place?

Good point, however (again IMO) it is the owners "chav" influence that makes a car "chavvy".
For example if 2 corsa b's rolled up infront of you, one with (searches for example in head) lexus lights, ford motorsport sunstrip and all other stick on accessories and another which was just for example a sport with subtle mods.

Would you classify the car or owner as "chavvy"? Personally the owner makes the car. (PLEASE DONT READ THAT AS ANY CAR WITH AN OUTLANDISH MOD MAKES THE OWNER A CHAV)

I stand by my original statement though, if the car does it by itself with no "add-ons" then yes i'd be gobsmacked at 5 foot flames. If it was done by a car with a stick on kit then in all fairness i'd be like "meh..." and walk away muttering to myself.

You've got the makings of a fantastic car there mate, and i know modifying is each persons own style so rather than say "you should do this instead" i'll simply say, i'd spend my money elsewhere.

Fair play to you mate, and I can relate to you a bit. I think in the back of my mind I know it's a stupid idea, but ever since I've known what they were I've wanted one, it's just that when I was 11 I didn't have a car to put one on

And I'm looking at about £40 for a single kit with everything I need. If it was a sizeable chunk of cash that could be spent on something more worthwhile then I probably would just do as you say - but since it's not exactly breaking the bank I'm gonna go for it. And if the worst comes to the worst I can just take it off anyway.

Nice one for being a mature adult when putting your opinion across as well mate.

your not gonna get big flames though, if you want big flames get a gas kit, thats what jag corsa had iirc.

But once youve taken it off you will have holes in your exhaust, you will need 2 spark plugs if you have a twin outlet unless you put the plug in the backbox part. Save your money.

The only time you can really use it is in a car park when your revving the tits off your car. Spend the money on some better front lights or something

Tbh I'm now looking at getting an old coil pack off a bike or something, so hopefully it shouldn't cost too much. And the holes would be in the tailpipe, i.e. - almost at the very tip of the exhaust so wouldn't start blowing or anthing.

Cheers for the serious reply though Dan.

Fit a turbo and anti lag. then you can flame all day long without repraisal.

There is a hillclimb car with a bdt engine and has a jet engine keeping the turbo spinning constantly. that doesn't even spit flames though. Do it if you want, but you can't blame people for their opinions, you did ask if they were a waste of money and the majority of people think so.

I didn't ask if they were a waste of money, I knew it already. It was the thread starter that asked that.

Flamer kits are just another mod which need to be applied to a reasonably modified car. Personally, i wouldnt have one and rather have a car which naturally kicks out a flame or two due to performance mods, but if you are going to have one, use it in moderation to avoid looking like its your latest gizmo you got for your birthday!

Good luck with it though, but flamer kits tend to carry a stereotypical tendancy now for people to shake their heads and mumble indecencies to themselves!
