I think we could easily live without them to be fair. If this country decided to band them, i'd be all for it.

plastic bags are always handy but not really needed nowadays imo

just a pain in the arse if you are nipping to the shop for a few things

alot of places here now charge for carrier bags

TBH its probably a small but highly visable decision which will realistically have little effect on the environment, and the greatest effect will be the PR for the area.

Suppose some supermarkets over here are trying to encourage people to use them less by offering the better quality "reusable" bags and the sack bags you can buy at the counter.

Wonder how easy it is recylcing wax coated paper bags?

To be fair, many place gave out paper bags in Australia when I was there, groceries and stuff like that, easily reyclable and biodegradeable, I wouldnt mind paying for them at all.

the thing is, if you take your own bags into a shop down here, you get looked at as if you are some kind of criminal whos going to steal things.

i used to work in a supermarket a few years ago and a bloke who was using his own bags instead of the plastic ones got stopped and searched because he was putting his food into the bags. unbelievable

My brother used to work at Tesco and he said they used to see people putting things in their pockets and then going to the till so they would never question people unless they were heading for the exit!

They shouldn't be stopping anybody until they have walked outside the shop.
