Went down scrap yard today and picked up a few bits. My mate got hold of a speedo with a rev counter as his dont have one. He drives a 1.2 8v merit (r reg).
Anyway he fits them and the revs work but now the speedo doesnt, nor do the miles. The temp and petrol both also work. I have tested the speedo in my corsa and it works fine so the speedo is not faulty. What could be the prob lads?
Oh nearly forgot to add, when he turns the lights on the rev counter stops working and he gets a rear fog light come up on the dash and he cannot turn it off. So lights on = rev and speedo not working but petrol and temp seem fine still..... WEIRD??? or easy and obvious and were just stupid?

Thing is the speedometer from the other speedo was working fine (the one without the rev counter).

so im guessing you wired the rev counter up for the new clocks?

all we did was take out the non rev counter speedo and replace it with the rev counter speedo (slot in clip in)

silly question maybe but how do you tell if the speedo is cable driven or electrical? My mate has recently changed the loom of his car so he can have electric window.
Would an R Reg 1.2 8v merit have cable or electric speedo as standard?

Spot on mate thanks for that, had a loose earth.
The speedo now works, just when we turn the lights on the rev and speedo cut out??? WHY? lol have we plugged something in wrong or something? Confused
