My mate had a fire damaged Corsa VXR at his yard, the Salvage management company came to collect it and he asked how much to buy the shell.. But its bloody CAT A so its all going in the crusher.. the engine was virtually un-touched by the fire.. Makes me want to cry  such a waste

Cat A cant be sold on for parts IIRC whereas cat b can only be sold for parts only..

CAT A and B are both condemed but CAT A must be destroyed whole, CAT B can be broken by an authorised ELV breaker.

I'm not sure death actually alters the category.
The engine may have looked fine but fire and heat damage can cause toxins when rubber is exposed to high temperatures.
Health risk to break it would mean it's not fit for parting.

It doesn't matter if they die or not. It is an inspectors assessment of how badly damaged the car is.
a car wouldn't be crushed if an old man had a heart attack and died at the wheel and his car slowly bumped into a lampost and cracked his number plate.
