it's not that difficult really is it? If it goes above that amount, you're happy to let some other mug pay over the odds ...wait for the next one to come along

Yea but that's not the point.

By sniping you can win the bid at a lower cost

I just wondered, as I thought it might be handy to not have to wait till the end of an auction to submit my highest bid.

No you wont. If you put the max you will bid then it will go just above the previous bid until you either win it or it goes above your max bid.

The only thing sniping is good for (and i'm not saying it doesn't work, because it does) is on the off chance somebody is sitting there doing the same and you out snipe them.

If you put in your maximum bid the first second the auction is in you will still win it at the same price, unless somebody pays more than you are willing to.

I stick a bid in last second manually, if I lose it it's went for more than I was willing to pay.

All I do is, as said, if you know you're willing to spend say £50 on an item, then bid that or slightly over. If you don't get it, look for another. Chances are you'll get it though.

I have 2 ebay screens up

1st screen - where you enter your bit (put in your max bid go right through but dont click confirm)

2nd have the item you want to buy page up and keep refreshing, when it gets to 5-10 sec press confirm on the other page and cross your fingers....

If its high enough you win and dont push the price up to much at the end

Wouldnt work like that though?

It wouldnt keep increasing the bid bit by bit...it would just go straight to whoever has the maximum bid

Naturally if someone wants to bid more than you they will... just prevents the price going up prematurely

Generally, If Im after something, I will snipe it myself, but manually, not through a program.

I have used a website in the past (when ive not been there to do it). but I cant recall the name.

For myself, I load up the auction on the one monitor and on the second monitor I have the amount ive bidded (max) with just the 'Commit' button.
I keep refreshing the main auction and wait until the last 5 seconds before hitting commit

If you enter your bids any earlier, your just giving the seller more profit.
It really winds me up when people bid days/hours before hand.. theres no need!

Thats the best way to do it as above, its how Ive done it in the past.

It wont prevent someone bidding higher if their max value is above yours, but it will stop them increasing their max bid if they wanted to as time would run out.

That really gets me as well

I'm watching some wireless gear on ebay and its already gone above its brand-new retail price 5 DAYS before the end of the auction.

What sort of mong is bidding that early pushing the price up? Unless its the seller of course.....

I bid days before the items end, because I usually forget to check on items so I put a cheeky bid in and sometimes i win it and if I dont then Im not bothered.

If you are getting outbid people are paying more than you are prepared to

That's life. Just sit watching the auction, and stick your max bid in with 5 seconds left

I've always said if you want something, bid what you want to pay.

If you miss it, then you didn't spend more than you wanted to.

Snipes are only a way of not giving away how much interest there is in something. I snipe loads and loads but rarely win stuff. But when I do it's cheap cheap
