can be done with box in but its an effort. shafts out diff cover off . big castleated nut where shaft goes needs to come out theres a 13mm bolt and locking thing to take off to unscrew it and then diff come out and its clipped/bolted to the diff.

are you not taling about the piece that goes into the top of the gear box? or are you talking about the cog or gear inside the gear box that actually drives the speedo drive??

well its not the sensor, clocks and wiring seems ok so only the bits on/inside the box left.
