Garages and stuff like that I give my full name. Find it annoying when I go to Audi and they call me Sir or Mr Gleadow. Arse lickers.
Prefer it if they called me Matt like everyone else does.

I usually use a common name that sounds a bit like my surname, as I can't be arsed spelling my name out.

I have a latin surname so it's a bit of a mouthful, so I just use part of my last name.

Tbh, it would seem like they were trying to be matey wankers if they called you by your first name when they were showing you around a car. When I'm phoning up parts departments/motor factors/taxis/any time I give my name over the phone, I still give my second name. It's just something that my dad's always done and so have I.
Or have I got the wrong end of the stick and you're the boss of said Audi garage and that's what the emplyees call you?

At work it's rare someone tells me their first name I always end up asking. I was wondering this week if it's old fashioned .
Yet i'm always Phil when speaking on the phone to anyone.

Depends on what it is for.
If its something like buying a car, id rather them call my by my first name.
Or if its like booking something in, Then my surname.
But everyone knows me by my surname anyway

Plus they never spell it right
Its either Boney, Bonny or even Bonner. Gets on my nerves even if i spell it out for them on the phone. When they do that i get pissed off very quickly!

I use my first name. My surname is too long, no one can spell it and shortening it to Smith sounds like I'm using a fake alias to me

But the amount of people who seem to mis-hear me and think I'm saying Ahmed is beginning to worry me.
