i've been on the 24MB service with BE for afew months now, i certainly can't complain so far. i know they're owned by O2 but i have no idea what their service is like in comparison. i'm going to assume very similar

Be were very good when i was with them, would recommend them any day of the week.
Moved onto o2 when i moved house because it's essentially the same, but £5 cheaper.
Again, very good.

Both of the companies send you txts with updates, when they're gonna take money, if you recieve an email from them etc... Can't complain with either

BE and o2 are exactly the same, the o2 internal system was just the BE one as well.

Tiscali is just awful anyway.

o2 is ok, although ive been with plusnet for years and found them superb, most of all their customer support.

Has started typing before I seen your reply

Plusnet openly throttle bandwidth, o2 will give you your full connection, better if it's llu although i've had no problems with my bt wholesale version so far.

are you using it for home matt? we tend to use Zen internet alot at work as we've found them to be reliable, and in the event something does go wrong they've been very good getting things sorted for us. you'll pay £35 ish for an 8MB service though

If your in a non LLU enabled area it really doesnt matter which ISP you go with as you will still be on the wholesale network

You might get a small difference but nothing major. It all goes down to your line.

Get LLU if you can.

It does matter who you are with, massively.

I've had 3 or 4 ISP's in this house, all with the same line that's capable of a full 8 meg, some ISP's are shocking, like virgin and what entanet turned out to be.

Others are good like entanet originally and now O2.

Different ISP's have differing badwidth and they filter traffic differently.

True to an exstent, but then different ISP's throttle different traffic, and at the end of the day if what you require bandwidth for is downloading then you need to pick an ISP that doesnt cap / throttle it. Otherwise general browsing etc... should be fine.

So it matters quite a lot who you pick, o2 don't throttle at all.

it matters depending on what you want to do with it, for everyday net access it does not matter.

And running a general speed test like Matt has done wont change much between ISP's if its a correct indication of line speed.

I disagree, when I was with virgin the service was that bad it was no use for web browsing.

If the line only support 200kb/s then this won't change with ISP, if the line is capable of supporting higher the choice of ISP could make a massive difference.

Stick your phone number into O2 or some other checker and they'll give you an expected speed Matt.

But the checkers are just estimating on speed vs distance, they cannot take into account the line quallity.

get a BT i plate sorted the internet out at the other halfs place.

200kbps if your lucky now 1.7mbps
HERE IS THE I PLATE

also it will help when you change providers as it clears up the line quality and alows the exchange to give you a faster line.

If you want the highest speed per pound, Virgin is your bet, however they are the worst customer services you will ever face.
