just went to cashpoint and there was 30 quid hanging out the cash bit, and a receipt hanging out the receipt bit, the receipt has like a 4 digit account number on it,
should i try and make an attempt to return the money to the owner (no guarantee the receipt hanging out was the person who took out the cash)
Or
just keep the money and feel sorry for someone who is 30 quid lighter now?

If it's a public "hole in the wall" type cash machine then keep it, you'll never find out who's it was and they won't go back.
I always check the self-service tills, found a tenner once

If it's in a shop or something like that (shop I used to work in has a cashpoint) you have to hand it in then if after two weeks nobody comes, it's yours.
That may well apply to outside cashpoints, but meh

wallet is different... may have cards in it etc...
but cash essentially belongs to no one. if they've left it in the machine, it's yours.

The person must have just left as the machine takes the cash back in if you don't take it in a certain time But might as well keep it!
