Is it safe to use inside the car? I just painted the spare wheel well with it, and the fumes are something nasty. Mite just paint strip it all off 2mrw and start again with something different.

Painting it small unventilated areas is a no no. Once its dry its ok but you have to wait a while, which i dont think he did by the sounds of it
