I have a 1.6 16v sport 99 - its only done 48,500 but there are shards of metal in my oil sump when i take it off...
and new oil is really black and metalically after only 6 miles of casual driving... I think the bearings and piston rings have gone. Is this common?

So as the title really, how much for a rebuild and is there any where in the West Mids??

Do you think its even worth it?

Thanks in advance!

its worth it if you want to keep the car.

personaly if it isn't smoking, or tapping i'd just give it a oil change every month for about 6 months to clear everythin out of the engine

no it isn't smoking or tapping....

A month ago my sump cracked and i lost oil whilst driving it - which has predominately caused the problem, I subsequently replaced the sump.

It runs fine now- hasn't lost power...

Although the sump leaks abit.... the replacement sump from was from a 1.6 zafira with no groove for a gasket, whereas my old gasket had a groove and rubber gasket in...

^So if i change oil every so often it may be ok?

ideally you need to find a motor you can see running, but is getting abit harder these days and even then you cant promise they will last
