right i think i may have found the problem with my car, just wonering if anyones got a pic of the earth that goes to gearbox to chassis to see if i have done it?

What do you want a pic of exactly, Where is goes to or what to use?
When fitting my XE it had one of those crappy flat braided things so I changed it for a thick earth strap fropm Halfords.
It goes from ones ot the end plate bolts to the inner wing. It's around 10" long.
I'll see if I can get a piece whilst rebuidling my eninge for the 2nd time in 1000 miles

An earth strap is an earth strap? What more do you need to know? As long as the engine is properly earthed to the chassis it doesnt matter where abouts its from.

Just make sure it's got contact and a decent quality strap.
That means sanding away the grime that is on the gearbox to fit it!

I've always found a good way to test if you have a bad eartj is to use a jump lead from the -ve on your battery to the earth point.
