Just been trying to find some pics of it.
I did just find out that its actually 477bhp though. A fair bit more than i remembered.

Its the engine out of his old car as seen in this pic...

I can only assume its out of a DTM Calibra.

I wonder what other cars it could fit though?
What gearboxes could handle 477bhp?

What box does Nic Barnes use?

IIRC you'll need to use the 2.2 crank along with the flywheel, custom rods+standard C20XE pistons.

You want the late 2.2 with the girdled bottom end really, the earlier ones used to throw rods like nobodies business. Also being a long stroke engine it wont rev as fast as an XE but you have more potential for torque. In the states the 2.2 ecotec is a very popular engine to tune with girdled versions making over 500bhp.

Z20LET uses a Y22XE head.. Also they have got sodium filled valves from the factory.

C20XE 150bhp @ 6000 145 lb/ft @ 4800
Y22XE 144bhp @ 5800 149 lb/ft @ 4000

I would say if you could race a Y22XE and a C20XE corsa they would be equal, if anything the 2.2 would be slightly ahead off the line.

Vauxhall have used a sleaved down 2.2 16v Ali engine since the Mk4 Astra Saloon days of BTCC racing.

Limited air restrictors and a reliable torquey 280bhp.... Thanks q very muchly....

C20XE can be taken to just shy of over 300bhp without nitrous. Needs a rebuild every few thousand miles though.

PS, larger pistons don't mean 2.2 engines.

I think thelarger pistons take it to 2024cc, and 2049cc. So not even a 2.1.

2.1 is 88mm I think... And is quite close to block edges.

87mm pistons, stock xe crank - 2050cc
88mm pistons, stock crank - 2098cc
88mm slipper pistons, shorter rods and 94mm steel crank - 2.3ltr.

JRE do up to a 2.4 xe and are in process of developing an 2.5 xe. but you would need serious wedge for his engines. same as swindon motors.

sure jre are seeing quite abit over 300bhp, sure something around 320-330 on a mega mega spec motor. ive been told he actually welds the underside of the inlets up because he machines that much out of the port into the throats!! be 9000rpm screamers +

SBD seem to charge quite abit too, not sure if steve still builds them or not anymore though, pretty sure he doesnt.
